Description

Memory (or in Swedish 'Djur Memory', which translates as "Animal Memory"?) by the Swedish Library of Talking Books and Braille (TPB) website are part of a production and research project of 4 Flash audio games at started in the autumn 2000. The project is led by the Department of Art History and Visual Studies at the University of Gothenburg, in collaboration with TPB. The aim is primarily to create computer games for visually impaired children of different age, secondly to produce guidelines for games suitable for this group. The guidelines will discuss issues concerning game production for visually impaired, for example the interfaces for audio and images, colour and contrasts, fonts, navigation.

This is what one of the developers, Dan Gärdenfors, had to say about them:

"First of all I would like to thank you for creating the AudioGames.net site. I very much agree with your opinion that audio games can be for everybody. I have been working with creating audio games since 2001 in a project run by the Swedish Library of Talking Books and Braille. This project has resulted in four web-based audio games: The Towers of Hanoi and Memory (2001), Tag (2002) and Skybells (2003). The games are created in Flash and they are about 1 Mb each, which means that they are quite small. Since they are meant to be accessible to several target groups, they are hybrid games with both complete visual and auditory interfaces. This means that they can be played either with the sound or graphics turned off, although the gameplay is designed to be more fun and challenging when the graphics are not used. The games are in Swedish, although they contain very little speech apart from the game instructions. If you access them from the English start page you can find written English instructions there that should be enough to get you started. It would be very interesting for us to know what you think about them."

In this version of Memory the player is challenged once more to find matching animals, similar to Sonokids Memory game.

This game is very simple and therefore very suitable to be played by very youcg children. Go play them now! And if you want to know more about the project and how the developers designed the game, read an exclusive report in our Article section!
